Toledo-based Arnold’s Home Improvement has teamed up with the Toledo Mud Hens and Atlas Shingles to offer one lucky and deserving family a brand-new roof in the Arnold’s Home Improvement “Ugly Roof Project.”  Owner and lifelong Toledo resident Jason Arnold decided several years ago to launch a contest where area families could submit pictures and a short essay explaining why they were in need of a helping hand. In this case, a whole company of helping hands to tear off their old, leaking worn out roof and install a brand-new roof—for absolutely free.

“When we say free, we mean free,” Arnold explained.  “We are providing everything, from the tear-off and disposal of their old roof to installing our premium, Atlas shingles, which includes the very best Atlas products, with a limited lifetime warranty on materials and a 10-year workmanship warranty, all at no cost to them.”

“We will be promoting the contest at Mud Hens games, on commercials, our Facebook page, and other venues starting on Opening Day,” said Arnold.  “We are a proud sponsor of the Toledo Mud Hens,’ and we will be at the home games, the fireworks, and we will have our employees and our mascot, Arnie The Hammer at the games to make everyone aware of the contest and how to enter.  We have hundreds of pictures on our Facebook page of Arnie The Hammer with the kids, and he has signed hundreds of autographs for the kids at these games in the past.  He’s quite the hit with both the kids and the parents.  He even runs the bases with the kids.”

“We will announce our Top 10 finalists, and we are letting the public decide the winner by voting on our Facebook page, where their photos and essays will be posted.  In prior years we have had some very, very compelling stories out there of people who are really in dire need of a new roof. Some of the stories brought tears to our eyes.” Jason stated.

“We believe in our local community,” Jason continued, “and in giving back.  The over 27 years we’ve been in business is because of the support we’ve received from our community.  What better way to give back than to do this for an area family that’s in need while teaming up with our beloved Mud Hens and Atlas.  I have lived in Toledo all my life, and it is important to me to better my community in whatever way I can.”

This is not the first time Arnold’s Home Improvement has embarked on such a significant endeavor to dramatically change and enhance a family’s life for free.  Six years ago, Jason created and spearheaded what is known as The Garcia Project, in which Arnold’s Home Improvement took the lead and recruited several other local contractors to participate in building a brand-new addition onto the back of the house of a local family with triplets, 2 of whom have cerebral palsy. Jason also sponsors a yearly 12,000 Home Improvement giveaway as well as one of our favorite annual programs, the Veterans Roof Project. He has also teamed up with Mom’s House and Channel 13's Hope for the Holidays program.

Join the Arnold’s Home Improvement family in being a part of this inspiring project. “We invite everyone to go to and nominate a family in need.”  We’ll be announcing the top 10 finalists on August 19th, live at the Mud Hens final home game of the season, so make sure to enter now.”
